Pokémon TCG shops in Metro Manila are not just places to buy booster packs, chase rare cards or fill a binder.
At several hobby shops around the metro, the cards regularly come out of their sleeves and onto tables as players meet for organized Pokémon Trading Card Game battles.
If you have ever bought Pokémon cards but never knew where people actually play them, the official Pokémon TCG calendar lists events happening across Metro Manila throughout September. Among them are shops in Manila, Quezon City and Makati where players can bring their decks and join scheduled battles.
Here are three places to start.
Yes, Pokémon cards are actually meant to be played
The collecting side of Pokémon TCG is probably the most visible part of the hobby. There are booster packs to open, rare cards to chase and entire collections built around favorite Pokémon.
But underneath all of that is an actual card game.
A standard Pokémon TCG deck contains 60 cards, with players building combinations of Pokémon, Trainer and Energy cards before battling another player’s deck. The official Pokémon Trainers Website also maintains a calendar of organized events happening at participating stores around the Philippines.
That means if your Pokémon cards have spent most of their lives inside a binder, there are places around Metro Manila where you can see what playing the game looks like in person.
Ongkeco’s Hobby Shop, Malate
On Taft Avenue in Malate, Ongkeco’s Hobby Shop is one of the Manila shops appearing on Pokémon’s official September event calendar.
The store has Pokémon TCG GYM Battles scheduled on September 8 and 15, both beginning at 6:30 p.m.
The September 15 listing, for example, is an open event with a capacity of 32 players and calls for a 60-card deck. Advance registration is available through Pokémon’s Trainers Website, although the site advises players to check with the GYM store for event-specific details.
You’ll find the shop at 3/F D’Students Place Building, 2488 Taft Avenue corner Estrada Street, Malate, Manila.
For someone based in Manila or studying around the Taft area, it is an accessible way to see that the Pokémon card hobby extends well beyond buying packs.
Hobby Stadium, New Manila
If you’re looking for a shop with a particularly busy Pokémon calendar, Hobby Stadium in New Manila has plenty happening this month.
The official Pokémon calendar lists GYM Battles throughout September, including September 4, 9, 11, 16, 18, 23, 25 and 30.
The shop is also hosting a 2026-27 Philippines Great Ball League Season 1 event on September 6, giving players an option beyond the more regular GYM Battles.

That frequency makes Hobby Stadium a good place to look if you want Pokémon TCG to become more than a one-time curiosity. Rather than waiting for a large convention or special Pokémon event, players have multiple dates in a single month when they can sit down across from another deck.
Hobby Stadium is located on the 3rd floor of 84 Doña Hemady Street, New Manila, Quezon City.
ARKEN CardZone, Circuit Makati
For players closer to Makati, ARKEN CardZone at Ayala Malls Circuit is another option.
ARKEN’s September calendar includes both regular Pokémon TCG activity and a larger competition. The shop is hosting a Great Ball League event on September 6 from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.
Its GYM Battle schedule continues later in the month, including events on September 11 and September 18, both listed from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.
The store is at Level 2 of Ayala Malls Circuit along Hippodromo Street in Makati, which also makes this the easiest of the three to combine with an ordinary mall visit.
You could go in to browse Pokémon cards and discover that there is an entire game happening at the tables beside them.
What if you’ve never played before?
You don’t need to understand competitive Pokémon TCG before becoming curious about it.
The basic game uses a 60-card deck, but the cards you put into that deck matter. Official tournaments also follow specific formats, which determine what cards are legal for a particular event.
That also means the cards sitting in your childhood binder may not automatically be usable in a current tournament.
If you want to join one of the listed events, check its individual registration page first and contact the shop when necessary. Pokémon notes that event schedules, participation conditions and availability can change, and some events have limited capacity.
If you’re completely new, it is also worth checking the official event calendar for Beginner’s Sessions, which Pokémon lists separately from its regular battles.
And if you’re not ready to play yet, simply seeing a match in person may be enough to understand a side of Pokémon cards that is easy to miss online.
Because that booster pack on the shelf was never meant to end its journey inside a binder.
Sometimes, the next stop is the table across from another player.
