Every May 18, museums around the world celebrate International Museum Day — a global observance led by the International Council of Museums (ICOM) that highlights how museums can bring people together through culture, creativity, and shared stories.
This year’s theme, “Museums Uniting a Divided World,” feels especially fitting as museums across Metro Manila open their doors to free tours, interactive exhibits, after-hours experiences, and immersive activities throughout May.
But beyond the events themselves, many of these museums already feel cinematic in their own way.
The National Museum as a real-life adventure movie

The National Museum of the Philippines is fully leaning into immersive experiences this International Museum Day — and some of its activities feel straight out of a cinematic montage.
At the National Museum of Fine Arts, visitors can join Art Bridging Divides: A Special Guided Tour and Interactive Activity (Art Quest: Decoding the Masterpiece Edition), transforming the museum into a space for culture, storytelling, and shared discovery.

Guests are invited to uncover selected artworks hidden throughout the galleries, turning the experience into something that feels part art quest, part National Treasure-style adventure.
Meanwhile, the National Museum of Anthropology is hosting a Mapping Challenge and Discovery Quest, turning cultural exploration into something that feels straight out of Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade — minus the booby traps and ancient curses, thankfully.
But perhaps the most immersive experience is happening at the National Museum of Natural History, where visitors can join a special after-hours program in celebration of International Museum Day and the museum’s ninth anniversary.

Spend the evening solving riddles and piecing together clues inspired by the Philippines’ diverse flora and fauna, giving the entire experience the feel of a The Da Vinci Code-style museum mystery unfolding in real life.
Ayala Museum serving Breakfast at Tiffany’s energy
Ayala Museum has always carried a polished, cinematic atmosphere that makes you want to romanticize your entire afternoon.
Wandering through its galleries feels very Breakfast at Tiffany’s-coded — elegant, quiet, sophisticated, and calming in the middle of the city.
Whether revisiting its historical dioramas or exploring contemporary exhibitions, it remains one of Makati’s most stylish museum experiences.
From May 4 to 28, the museum is offering discounted admission. From Tuesday to Thursday, 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., visitors can explore the museum for only P200, with select guests eligible for rates as low as P120.
Simply follow Ayala Museum on social media and present proof at reception to claim access.
Museo del Galeón is giving full maritime epic energy
One of Metro Manila’s newest museums, Museo del Galeón explores the Manila-Acapulco Galleon Trade through immersive storytelling, multimedia installations, and large-scale exhibits that bring maritime history to life.

The experience feels like a cross between Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World and Pirates of the Caribbean — towering ships, dramatic sea voyages, celestial navigation, and centuries of cultural exchange, all grounded in real Philippine history.
Free guided tours are available throughout May.
Yuchengco Museum feels like an Indie Art House film
A visit to Yuchengco Museum right now feels like stepping into an indie art house film, where every gallery invites slower movement, closer observation, and more introspective wandering.
From May 17 to 18, the museum is offering free admission, giving visitors access to exhibitions exploring fashion, identity, spirituality, photography, and Filipino creativity.
The Met Manila feels like a Slice-of-Life anime movie
The Metropolitan Museum of Manila in BGC feels like a slice-of-life anime, where every gallery becomes a small side quest waiting to be discovered.
Try Japanese toys in the playful installation space at Omocha, join Museum Mayhem!, or draw self-portraits at The M Art Studio, while the 2/F Foyer’s Gashapon Philippines installation adds a collectible toy experience that feels like a real-life lucky draw moment.
Enjoy free admission from May 19 to 31 and explore exhibitions that blend nostalgia, play, and contemporary art.
Museum hopping as a cinematic montage
Museums are no longer just quiet spaces filled with artifacts behind glass.
Across Metro Manila, they have become immersive spaces for storytelling, discovery, and unexpected experiences.
One moment, you’re stepping into the shoes of Robert Langdon while solving clues inside the National Museum of Natural History.
The next, you’re channeling Holly Golightly at Ayala Museum or embracing your inner Captain Jack Sparrow or Captain Jack Aubrey aboard the towering galleons of Museo del Galeón.
With free admission, interactive programs, and visually rich spaces across the metro, museum hopping feels less like a field trip — and more like stepping into your own cinematic montage.
