A groundbreaking AI-powered app called “Sustancia” has emerged as the champion of the FlutterFlow HackFest: Impact Challenge, taking home the grand prize of P50,000. Developed by Team Null, the winning app leverages artificial intelligence to offer personalized dietary recommendations and community-wide nutrition insights, aligning with global efforts to promote sustainable and healthy living.

Team Flux secured second place with “Inspectrum,” an app using eye-gaze tracking to facilitate early detection of ADHD and Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). They received a P30,000 prize.

Meanwhile, Team Neosolve’s “Procrash,” a gamified productivity app that turns habit-building into an interactive adventure, earned them third place and the P20,000 prize money that goes with the accolade.

Over a thrilling 24 hours, the teams of developers locked horns, not for personal gain, but to create innovative applications aimed at addressing some of the world’s most pressing challenges. 

A total of thirteen teams saw action in the 24-hour hackathon hosted by the FlutterFlow Developer Group (FFDG) Manila, which develops tech solutions aligned with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). With a focus on health, education, and sustainable communities, participants tackled pressing societal challenges, such as waste management, accessibility, and mental health support.

Recognizing tech-driven solutions

The hackfest kicked off on November 22 at the Google Philippines office in Bonifacio Global City, Taguig City, where participants drew inspiration from keynote speakers Jan Michael Jaudian and Elmerei Cuevas.

Jaudian, the Head of Customer Engineering for the Philippines and Vietnam at Google, highlighted how technology serves as both a catalyst and toolkit for solving real-world problems. He also praised the participants for using technology as a “catalyst and toolkit” to address real-world issues.

“The talent, creativity, and drive displayed during this hackathon reaffirm how technology can be harnessed to build solutions that leave a lasting impact on communities,” Jaudian said.

On the other hand, Cuevas, a Social Innovation Analyst at the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), offered a compelling overview of the Philippines’ progress on the Sustainable Development Goals, motivating participants to develop meaningful apps for social good and sustainable development.

A platform for purpose

This year’s winners reflect how technology can bridge gaps in health, inclusivity, and sustainability, shaping a brighter future for communities in the Philippines and beyond.

The development of the AI-powered apps was guided by seasoned industry experts who served as mentors throughout the competition, ensuring the projects were both innovative and impactful.

• Good Health and Well-being (SDG 3): Apps like Sustancia, Inspectrum, and Optimai tackled nutrition, early disease detection, mental health support, and emergency response.
• Quality Education (SDG 4): Apps such as Ipaglaban Mo, ElevatEd, and Procrash focused on legal education, learner support, and productivity enhancement.
• Sustainable Cities and Communities (SDG 11): Innovations like SureBin, Scrapify, and Rent ’n Lend addressed waste management, recycling, and resource-sharing.

The hackathon highlighted FlutterFlow’s potential to accelerate app development, empowering developers to create impactful solutions in just 24 hours. Participants benefited from mentorship by industry experts, ensuring their projects were both innovative and practical.
