The ICanServe Foundation (ICS) recently hosted its fourth annual breast cancer survivorship and supportive care workshop, “Leading With Care: Building a Supportive Future for Breast Cancer Survivors,” at SEDA Hotel in Bonifacio Global City, Taguig.
The two-day event brought together healthcare professionals, patient advocates, and government representatives to address the critical need for long-term care for breast cancer survivors in the Philippines. While much attention is focused on the physical challenges of battling breast cancer, the workshop emphasized the equally important aspects of mental health and emotional well-being in the survivorship journey.

The workshop also delved into the mental health and emotional challenges faced by breast cancer survivors. Psychologist Lia Delgado-Infante and writer-editor Alya Honasan discussed the importance of addressing fears and seeking emotional support. They emphasized the need for holistic care that integrates mental health services into survivorship programs.
Aside from mental health, the workshop also addressed the financial burden faced by many cancer survivors. Representatives from the Philippine Cancer Society and the Department of Health shared information on available financial assistance programs. Participants also discussed the need for policy advocacy to strengthen financial navigation services and ensure accessible care for all survivors.
A collaborative approach
The ICS workshop demonstrated the power of collaboration in driving positive change. By fostering dialogue between healthcare professionals, patient advocates, government representatives, and survivors, the event aimed to create a more supportive and inclusive environment for breast cancer survivors in the Philippines.
Through continued advocacy, collaboration, and a commitment to comprehensive care, the ICanServe Foundation envisions a future where every breast cancer survivor in the Philippines receives the support and resources they need to thrive.
